Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and add the baking soda.
  6. Divide the dough into pieces and shape each piece into a pretzel.
  7. Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds.
  8. Transfer the pretzels to the baking sheet and brush with melted butter, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
